To Begin

This document is intended for Versago administrators. End-users do not have access to this function.

  1. Click on the Admin link in the profile section of the Versago home page to access the Administration console.
  2. Email and password configuration functions are found under the Settings category of the menu.

Email and Password Configuration

The email configuration functions are found in the Versago Admin function. Email settings will be needed for the Password Reset configuration.

Email Settings

The Email Settings function is used to configure a connection to an SMTP (email) server. This allows Versago to send password recovery messages and email report information within the application.

Email Prerequisites

Before beginning you will need the following information.

  1. Name or IP address of your SMTP server.
  2. The username & password of the user that will “login” to the SMTP server. This is only used when the SMTP access requires credentials to connect.

Assuming your SMTP application is on a different physical server, the network port used for SMTP (typically 25) must be open in any firewalls.

Contact your local network administrator for assistance with these items

Configure Email Settings

Click on the “Email Settings” link in the Admin console to begin.

  • Only one SMTP connection can be defined for a Versago installation.
  • Any of the information can be changed at any time.

  1. Enter a valid email address for your system as the Admin Email. This will act as the “From” user name in administrative emails sent from Versago.
  2. Enter the name or IP address of your SMTP (Host) server.
  3. Enter the username of the user that will make the connection to your email system
  4. Enter the password for the user identified in item 3.
  5. Enter the port used for SMTP traffic. This will typically be 25 unless SSL is in use. Then the port will typically be 465. Consult with your network administrator if you have any questions.
  6. Select this checkbox if SSL is being used.
  7. Mail To is only used to send a test email.
    1. Enter a recipient email address; press [Send].
    2. A “Success” message is displayed if the connection is made to your email server and the message is passed along. If an error message is displayed, you will need to recheck your settings and try again.

Password Settings

The password configuration functions are found in the Versago Admin function.

  • Click on the “Password Settings” link in the Admin console to begin.

Password Settings includes two functions: Password Strength and Password Reset. Click on the appropriate item to continue.

Password Strength

Versago supports three levels of password “strength.” The “strength” level defines the rules a user must follow to create their password. Third Wave recommends the use of a least the “Enforce Minimum Requirements” option if Versago is exposed outside your company network.

  • The first level uses no restrictions on the password set by the user. This is the default when Versago is installed.
  • The second level enforces minimum password requirements. The requirements are shown in the image below. To enable this option, select the “Enforce minimum requirements” checkbox on the Password Strength tab.
  • The highest level enforces “strong” password requirements. The requirements are shown in the image above. To enable this option, select the “Ensure strong passwords …” option.
    • The “Enforce minimum requirements” option is automatically selected and must be used as well.

Configure Reset Password Settings

The Reset Password Settings function is used to configure the message for the email that is sent when a user clicks the “Password Recovery” link on the Versago home page. A default message is provided and can be used by entering a “From” email address and enabling the function.

  1. Enter a valid From Email address for your system. This will act as the “From” user name in reset password emails sent from Versago.
  2. Enter a Subject for the email.
  3. Enter the Message to be sent.
    1. You will see the text {URL} in the default message. Be sure to include this value if you create a custom message. This will display as “Reset password URL” in the actual email, and has the URL needed for the user to reset their password.
    2. Use the formatting tools in the icon bar to customize your message if you wish.
  4. Click enable to active the reset password function. Do not enable the password reset function until you have configured the email settings as described above. The email configuration is required to send the reset message.
