Changing Report Column Order

When a Versago report is created the order of the columns reflects the sequence of values in the data selection process (SQL Select, B1 Saved Query, Stored Procedure). However, it may be necessary to change the column order for presentation purposes.

Changing the column order is done using the “Display Order” column on the “Field Display Details” page of the report setup wizard.

Clicking in the Display Order field on a row will display a list of numbers. These are the display order values for all rows. The current row is highlighted.

When you click on a different order number, the two values are immediately swapped. In the above example, if “2” is clicked then column 4 becomes column 2 and column 2 moves to column 4. This can be confusing and may take some experimentation to master.

Many times, you will want to move a column but not directly swap positions with another column. Assume that in this example we want to place what is now column 5 directly after column 2. But we want to what is now column 3 to appear in position 4, not position 5. To do this you will need to re-sequence the order column-by-column. Fortunately, the column names are displayed during this process, so it is easy to see how the columns will appear as each change is made.

The steps for this example would be:

  1. Click display ID 5
  2. Select ID 4 from the drop-down list
  3. The column is moved up one row
  4. Click display ID 4
  5. Select ID 3 from the drop-down list
  6. The column is moved up one row

Follow these steps for each column that you need to re-position.

Remember that calculated value columns can be moved in this manner, as well as columns from the data selection.

Column Order for Mobile Devices (Phones)

The report display is different for mobile devices (phones) than for workstations and tablets. On a mobile device each row is presented in what is called “Card View.” In this view, the first two columns of the report are displayed for each row. The remaining columns are displayed vertically when the row is expanded. This should be kept in mind when setting the column order and some users may be using mobile devices.

Sub-report values are displayed in the same manner below the main record. Action links can be used as well.
